Student Experience

Garfield Elementary School (K-5) is part of the Alexandria Public School system. Garfield Elementary staff members are committed to providing individualized, quality education. Staff members nurture students in an open, friendly environment. The family atmosphere permeates the school and is supported by involved parents. Garfield Elementary was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School in 2013. Garfield has a childcare program before and after school. The school features up-to-date technological opportunities for students at all levels. Computers or ipads are available in each classroom and media center, along with presentation systems that allow for interaction. Fifth grade students have their own Chromebook through our one-to-one initiative. Special area teacher instruct in physical education, music, art and media. Specialized programming is offered through Reading Intervention, Special Education, Title I and classes for High Potential Learners.
